Park Closure Information

Due to park enhancements (to update electrical, road, fishing pier and sewer), the beach house, picnic shelters and Gun Lake campground will close for the 2024 season. The majority of the day-use area, main park road and boating access site will remain open except when construction work prohibits safe access.

Updates can be found here.

Recreation Passport

The Recreation Passport is required for vehicle access to state parks and recreation areas, state-managed boating access sites, state forest campgrounds, thousands of miles of trails and other outdoor spaces – all year long! Learn how to get it, where it can take you and what it supports at Michigan.gov/RecreationPassport.

Hours

Campsite: Check-in for camping arrivals start at 3 p.m. and checkout is 1 p.m.
Quiet hours: 11 p.m. to 8 a.m.; Campground office: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., May 15 – Labor Day.

Alcohol

You may not possess or consume an alcoholic beverage in the 1.) Gun Lake day-use area April 1 through Labor Day or 2.) Deep Lake campground, mountain bike parking lot and boating access site 8-18 at any time (unless the park manager has granted written authorization through an event permit).

Pets

Pets must always be on a 6-foot leash and under an owner’s immediate control.
All pet waste must be properly disposed of in trash receptacles.

Special camping rules

Campsites must be occupied each night after arrival. Two vehicles allowed per campsite. Visitors must leave by 10 p.m. Campfires are permitted in designated fire rings only and must never be left unattended. Do not burn garbage. Fireworks are prohibited.

Don’t move firewood!

Tree killers could be just one bundle of firewood away. Invasive insects and diseases have destroyed MILLIONS OF TREES in Michigan – often after hitching a ride on firewood.

Hauling firewood, even a short distance, from one part of the state to another is a common way for these invasive species to infest new locations. Please purchase only certified heat-treated firewood sold in state parks, local stores and roadside stands.
